Even if you can't see your wings, you can fly. Never allow someone to put you down. Not even the sky is the limit. Fly, be free, be a warrior. Photo by BraNewbs.
One of the things I really want to accomplish in this world is to help more people fly. High up, above all obstacles and barriers.
I want to save the world!
That’s why today, as I write this post, I’m pissed off.
I’m pissed off because (excuse my language here) stupid people teach the new generations to be just be enough.
The abuse of power
It’s no secret that I work at the studio with my brother, we are all family there. Not by blood, but because we choose to be family.
One of the core concepts at the studio is to teach the new generations to always fly high and be open to learn. Just like a warrior would do.
Today, one of our members had to face something that really pissed me off. A random guy who thinks he is a teacher.
She is learning how to create Flash presentations at school. When she came to ask for my help, I was glad I could use my experience to help her. I started to teach her how to code.
I want to quote her teacher (translated to English of course), he said this upon checking her coding and not understanding it:
I’m only asking you to be just like everyone else, I want you to walk not to fly!
She has devoted two weeks of intense training with me, just to hear that from her teacher. Excuse me again, but that’s bullshit.
Accepting you don’t know it’s not bad!
The problem is simple, her teacher is unable to accept his ignorance.
I’m really concerned and I don’t want you to fall in the same pitfall. I want you to walk, run, fly, or do whatever you want to reach your destination and never fall prey to such comments.
First of all, when you don’t know about something, you go ahead and accept it. Ignorance isn’t a sin, it’s not bad at all to accept you don’t know a lot of things. If you accept you don’t know something, you are taking a step towards the right direction. You are allowing yourself the opportunity to learn.
I will say it again using full caps because I really want you to keep this close at heart:
IGNORANCE ISN’T AT SIN!
Open yourself. Learn!
When you open yourself to new experiences and knowledge, you are allowing yourself to grow. This is part of being a true warrior.
Only a fool tries to downplay someone. A warrior always tries to find new teachers, be it a person, a book or a blog. There is always a way to learn.
Success comes to those that can really accept when they don’t know how to do something. Then there are two clear roads, you can learn the skill or you can find someone who can do it for you. Neither of those ways show you as someone weak.
An invitation to be a better you
I want you to do a simple exercise. Don’t worry, it’s simple and only takes 5 seconds. Take a deep breath and now accept that you don’t know about a topic. I’ll go first.
I, Alejandro Reyes, don’t know about truly complex math like calculus.
It may seem intimidating to accept that you don’t know something, but the reality is simple. The affirmation is not causing anything at all. No catastrophes. Nobody died. You may even identify with me.
Realize, just as I did, that everyone who lands on this page will know that I don’t know calculus. Is this the end of my life? Not really. It may be a bit scary, but that’s all.
I may even find a kind soul that can teach me. You see? There is nothing bad at all, it can lead to a positive result.
It’s time for you to fly
Remove the shackles. If you are afraid someone would laugh at you because you don’t know something, you have nothing to fear. There are kind souls in this world that can always help you
In the rare event someone actually laughs, then be bold and ask them to teach you. That helps you take the upper ground. If they refuse, then you have nothing to fear, they are even more afraid than you are.
You are a true warrior. You understand, deep inside you, that your knowledge doesn’t define you. You are defined by your actions.
If your actions show that you are always willing to learn, this means you are not only wise, but kind with yourself.
Knowledge can be learned, but having a deep desire for knowledge comes from within you, from your warrior spirit.
The bottom line
I want to ask you a favor. If you ever find someone like my friend’s teacher, take the high ground. Be kind to them and never let their words hurt you.
You’re a warrior, you’re allowed to fly whenever you want. Don’t ask permission. Fly, the world is yours. Take it!
Please, share this post far and wide and help me eradicate fools that try to cut your wings and those of your fellow warriors.
I don’t know if it’s my Aries nature or just simply who I am, but whenever I’ve been told I can’t or shouldn’t do something (like your student with her teacher!) my reaction is usually, “I’ll show you!” I do my best not to be arrogant or cocky, but rather committed to whatever it is I’m wanting to do. Doesn’t mean I pretend to know everything, because I certainly don’t and I’m not afraid to say that either. For example…
I don’t drive. I’m not afraid or cautious, I’ve just simply never gotten around to it. It hasn’t been important to me and I’ve lived a very full life in spite of this perceived limitation. People are always stunned when they hear this.
I also did poorly at Math in school, almost failing it in my last year. Straight A student in everything else, but math? Just couldn’t understand it.
There’s lots I don’t know, and I’m ok with that

Sandi, it’s awesome to have you here!
One curious thing, I don’t drive either. I do know the basics, but I don’t like to hit the road (I love cars and games about cars).
But just as you say, we can have wonderful lives even if we don’t know a lot of things.
Another fun thing, I really can’t draw, but I’m a designer.

Alex, I totally agree with you! And like Sandi, I get sparked up when someone tells me I can’t! In my last semester of college, I took all 4 parts of the CPA exam because I wanted to pass that sucker and get it out of the way. My friends kept telling me to aim lower. Just take 1 or 2 parts, don’t kill myself. And when I passed all 4 parts, no one congratulated me. And I had to bite my tongue as I heard them complain for the next 4 years about how they didn’t have the time to study for the rest of the exam while they were working full time.
Not everyone has that kind of drive and I think it makes others uncomfortable. But you know what makes me uncomfortable? Not being able to be my true self around those who are supposed to accept me for who I am.
P.S. My name is Amy Grams and I don’t know how to embed videos – but I’m learning!
Amy, thank you for your comment!
It’s truly an uncommon drive, I have not seen in many of the students that my brother has hired for the Studio. Curiously, they often leave on their own after they hang out with 4 very uncommon guys.
Oh, and don’t worry about the videos, I got your back!

Jings, my blood boiled (it doesn’t do that very often) reading the teacher’s comments. I think I might have been marching down the road to the school and having a word with him.
My name is Jackie Walker and I don’t know so very very much and I’m so very happy with that and very willing to admit it up front!

Jackie, I’m so glad you came. I think you are on a wonderful journey, one that allows you to learn a lot from the world. I love how much you are growing lately.

A fun fact, we are planning to go down over to talk to that guy, we don’t like when people mess with our friends. Even less when they try to put them down!

So great! I just wrote a post inspired in part by the master teacher Socrates whom I just quoted on my Facebook page: “As for me, all I know is that I know nothing.” ~Socrates As Jackie said over there… that girl’s teacher would do well to learn this!!
I love how what we are all writing supports and contributes to each other’s work… fabulous!!

Wonderful indeed Kathy!
I think Socrates really knew his stuff, and what he didn’t know! I think we all write for helping people fly. As Tim said at the daring adventure today, we are all changing the world with our positive effort.
